Where Are They Now: Gene Ligon

As someone who grew up in the 80s and followed the Crockett promotion religiously there wasnt many Saturday mornings or nights that I didnt see Gene Ligon in the ring. Ligon during his time in the squared circle he squared off with names such as Flair, Race, Blanchard, Mcdaniel, just to name a few. He also had a run as the masked Thunderfoot while being managed by Paul Jones. Now many years removed from the ring I spoke briefly with Ligon to see what he is up to these days.

Q: How is life treating you these days Gene and what are you up to nowadays?

A: These days I am in the health and wellness business. Trying to help others achieve their dreams financially. My site is geneligon.com.

Q: Do you keep up with the sport much these days?

A: Honestly Jason no I dont. I just dont like the direction they have taken the business. I will make an appearance at an indy show from time to time but thats about it.

Q: You had a chance to work with so many greats. Who did you enjoy working with the most?

A: Tough question but I would have to narrow it down to The Rock and Roll Express and The Midnight Express. In my opinion they were the best. They just had so many great attributes.

Q: Do you still keep in contact with any of the guys?

A: Yes Nikita Koloff and I remain great friends and we workout together 3 times a week here in Concord, NC

Q: Lastly Gene what is the one thing you will always remember about your time in the NWA?

A: The fans. The problem when your coming along you tend to focus more on yourself. But as I got older and had time to reflect it was all about the fans and giving them a memorable experience. Also ill never forget the oppurtunity I was given to travel and see other great countries like Japan and Austraila and performing for their fans as well.
