The reigning and defending NWA Woman’s Champion Thunder Rosa shocked the world Saturday night by kicking in the door of All Elite Wrestling and making a challenge to incumbent champion Hikaru Shida for the Women’s Champion at All Elite Wrestling.
Thunder Rosa’s 2020 was off to an incredible start. She kicked off the new year defeating Maki Ito to win the International Princes Title in Tokyo Japan for Tokyo Joshi Promotion. it would be a mere few weeks later she would claim her first NWA Woman’s Championship by defeating Allysin Kay at NWA Hard Times. Rosa would go on to defeat Kay in a rematch on NWA POWERRR. She speaks at length of what this NWA Championship means to her in this interview.
Of course impacted by Covid-19, Thunder Rosa hasn’t been able to defend her title as much as she would have liked. Her next title defense is scheduled for September 18th against Lindsay Snow. Her last title defense was on NWA POWERRR where she faced Melina, who refused to continue the match. Rosa has also been making appearances for Southwest Wrestling Entertainment (SWE) television show Fury. She had a confrontation with former NWA Woman’s Champion and current SWE Woman’s Champion Jazz. There is also speculation that Thunder Rosa could be defending her championship on the United Wrestling Network’s Prime Time LIVE on September 15th, however, no card has been made public.
Hikaru Shida defeated Nyla Rosa at AEW’s Doulbe or Nothing 2020 on May 23rd to become just the third champion. She has had one title defense at Fyter Fest 2020 where she defeated Penelope Ford.
Thunder Rosa becomes the 4th talent who has appeared on NWA POWERRR to also appear on All Elite Wrestling. Ricky Starks, Colt Cabana, and most recently Eddie Kingston all took their talents to AEW on TNT. Many critics have called the AEW Woman’s Division a weak link for the new wrestling promotion. This match up has the look and feel to a world class match up and had brought a lot of attention to the both brands.
