“The Challenge of history is to recover the past and introduce it to the present”
–David Thelen
Taking the insurmountable challenge of documenting the history and the tradition of wrestling is difficult task. Logging miles on the road, hours shooting, days editing, all to document the history of the NWA for his History & Tradition: The Story of the National Wrestling alliance. This could be most trying when the majority of its documented video is owned by the McMahon family and the WWE. But the bold Michael Elliott and EllBow Productions decided to attempt this challenge coming off the heels of the “WOO MERCY…the Jimmy Valiant Experience” a documentary on the “Boogie Woogie Man” Jimmy Valiant. Michael Elliott has spent the past few months speaking to promoters, wrestlers, journalist, photographers, and historians about the past and present of the National Wrestling Alliance.
Nearly finished, we’ll speak to Michael Elliott about the process of gathering footage and establishing interviews with the folks from around the country. What his motivation was to commit to producing this DVD, who were some of his favorite interviews, and what he hopes to accomplish with this project.
