Serena Deeb Still World Champion | NWA News

On May 30th for AEW’s Double or Nothing Buy-In, Serena Deeb was victorious. This marks the sixth title defense for the champion and her second appearance for an AEW Buy-In.

Deeb vs. Riho Part II

This match was somewhat of a re-match from the Women’s World Title Eliminator Tournament from February. The consequences from that match took Deeb out of action for almost three months. The Champ would not be able to compete nor defend her title at the NWA POWERRR Tapings from March. Following her loss to Riho, Deep had to have arthroscopic knee surgery. The good news was there were no serious injuries, although she would have to remain out of the ring for 6-8 weeks. Riho would fall in the second round to former NWA Champion Thunder Rosa.
The course of this bout for the Burke saw a much more vicious Deeb. Maybe not so ironically, Deeb was hell-bent on attacking the knee of Riho. And after a powerbomb was unsuccessful in finishing off the challenger, The Woman of 1000 Holds synched in her Serenity Lock for the tap out.

Riho Going Forward

Riho was the first All Elite Wrestling Women’s Champion. On the first episode of All Elite Wrestling, Riho defeated Nayla Rose to become the first Women’s Champion. As champion, she would split time between AEW in the United States and in Japan. While in Japan she was a breakout star for the all-women’s (Joshi) wrestling promotion Stardom. It was announced during the match, that Riho would be making the United States her permanent operations for wrestling.

What’s Next for Deeb

Advertised for the June 6th NWA Pay Per View When Our Shadows Fall, Serena Deeb will make her seventh title defense. It will mark her first title defense in an NWA ring.
