Ricky Starks elects free agency

Surprisingly, Ricky Starks has elected free agency while the NWA is on hiatus. Starks was a former NWA TV Champion and was often discussed as being one of the bright stars of the NWA.

Ricky Starks appeared on the Busted Open Radio show today to announce his departure from the National Wrestling Alliance. Ricky Starks was the first NWA Television Champion (of this era).

Starks tenure with this version of the National Wrestling Alliance kicked off at the NWA 70th Anniversary. Starks was one of eight competitors who battled to crown a new NWA National Champion. (It should be noted that with Starks departure there is no longer anyone on the current roster who was part of the elimination match at the 70th Annviersary Show).

For his efforts, Starks was often talked about as the ‘Number One Draft Pick” of the NWA, which was saying a lot. In his tenure Starks feuded with current National Champion Aron Stevens in the early days of NWA POWERRR. Starks held victories over the likes of Trevor Murdoch, Eddie Kingston, Tim Storm, Matt Cross, and current TV Champion Zicky Dice. Starks even took the Worlds Heavyweight Champion to a TV Time Limit Draw all of which led to him becoming the first TV Champion. A title on paper held for only two days, but was portrayed as champion for 5 weeks of television.

Starks is the first competitor from the NWA to declare his free agency, while quietly Tasha Steelz signed with Impact Wrestling. This departure is shocking to many as it was believed that Starks would be entering into a program with Zicky Dice. With no NWA POWERRR episodes planned, it seems Ricky would be more interested in testing the waters of what’s available.
