Prime Time Live Episode 8 Primer

After eight weeks, the United Wrestling Network gets closer to crowning it’s World Champion as tournament matches continue between Watts and Redbeard, Fredericks and Rosser, Smith and Bennett. Plus the debut of Lio Rush and a woman’s match that will have implications for the Woman’s Championship down the road when Alize and Monroe lock horns.

United Wrestling Network presents Episode 8 of it’s weekly episodic pay per view. The UWN has had a very busy week. On this episode of Prime Time Live, we will Heather Monroe back in action as she faces off against Miranda Alize. Plus the debut of Lio Rush The World Championship Tournament will continue this week.

Championship Wrestling from Hollywood aired on it’s typical channels including a return of Ruby Raze to CWFH, she was the mystery opponent to face Heather Monroe in the  Halston “Body Bag” Match.  Aso on that card was 4 Minutes Heat faced VSK and Patrick Fitzpatrick. Chris Dickinson obliterated “Sweet” Robin Shaw. Richie Slade defeated Jordan Cruz.

In Memphis they held their first live event. This is a big step into what the United Wrestling Network has been. Developing strategic partners, to syndicate a localized version of the Hollywood Show, which at the right moment can tie directly into promoting live events. CW30 Memphis is hosted by Dustin and Maria Starr. On Saturday, they presented the Drive-In Spooktacular already making many of those matches available on YouTube. The show featured Watts, Cece Channel, Will Allday, and AEW talents Marko Stunt and “The Librarian” Peter Avalon. This could be yet another vehicle for the United World Champion to defend his title upon completion of the Tournament.

On her last appearance Heather Monroe took everything that Elayna Black had to offer and still left with her hand raised in victory. Monroe has continued to showcase her talents in the United Wrestling Network, proving she is one of the top competitors around. Her previous match against the NWA’s Kamile didn’t end in victory, but earned her much respect. Miranda Alize returns to Thunder Studios coming off her victory of Christi Jaynes. The implications of this match could certainly tie into the woman’s championship that is being created. And a victory by either of these two, would leverage either of them to be in the thick of that title picture.

Lio Rush will shock many people tonight. Rush who might be best known as a former WWE Cruiserweight Champion, was let go from the promotion when it laid off nearly 30 wrestlers in the middle of the pandemic. It should be noted that Blaze is a former CZW World Champion. Rush hasn’t had the strongest of returns to active competition as he has defeats at the hands of AEW’s Joey Janela at GCW’s Homecoming Weekend, AEW’s Brian Cage at VxS Legends Never Die, but did score his first victory post pandemic pause against ACH at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4. An opponent hasn’t been announced yet for Rush, many including myself, were hoping for Danny Limelight or Kevin Martenson. The challenger will probably be announced on the show.

The announcement of this title was probably the worst kept secret in all of wrestling. When David Marquez and Company moved on from the NWA in 2012 it was determined that he would at some point create his own championship. There were a few misfires as they thought they would crown a new champion on more than a couple of occasions. After last week, we know that Chris Dickinson has already advanced into the second round. But who he faces next is to be determined. Three quarter matches take place tonight.

We will see the debut of Erick Redbeard (formerly known as Eric Rowan). Redbeard was a bit of a tag team specialist holding the tag titles as part of the Wyatt Family in NXT. Teaming with AEW’s Brodie Lee, the duo captured the Smackdown tag titles. He would win those titles with Daniel Bryan for a second time. But outside of those bright moments, Redbeard didn’t make a lot of noise in the WWE. Redbeard’s early career was spent in MPW out of Minnesota. He competed as Thoruf Marius. After three years of the business he was a regular for Pro Wrestling NOAH, teaming with Rocky Romero and Davey Richards. He was picked up by WWE developmental back in 2011 first reporting to FCW and later NXT. This opportunity may be exactly what Redbeard needs to break out (similarly to Michael Bennett). Watts has become one of the best competitors in all of the United Wrestling Network. There haven’t been too many bigger than Watts, but Redbeard will be one of them. Watts is a former United Wrestling Network Tag Team Champion and was the Hollywood Herrtiage Champion up until just a few months ago. This battle of the behomets should be a lot of fun.

Over the past four months of NJPW of American tapings in Port Hueneme, Karl Fredericks has only lost twice in singles action. He lost to Jeff Cobb and he lost to KENTA. It goes to state that a healthy Karl Fredericks is damn near undeniable. Victories over Misterioso Jr, ACH, Blake Christian, and Sliced Boogie on Prime Time Live have really leveraged momentum in the favor of of the “Alpha Wolf.” “Mr. No Days Off” Fred Rosser has had a handful of appearances on NJPW Strong, with a victory over Clark Connors and that victory over Chris Masters and James Storm on PTL. This match up can genuinely go either way,

Davey Boy Smith Jr. might just be the odds on favor to win this tournament. The majority of his focus for the past year had been with Major League Wrestling and would routing team up with Brian Pillman Jr. as the Hart Foundation. He is a former NWA World Tag Team Champion with Lane Archer, they also held the IWGP Tag Titles and the GHC Tag Titles He held the WWE Tag Team Championship with Tyson Kidd as the Hart Dynasty. But in the tournament he will look to shed the tag team specialist persona in pursuit of the World Championship. His opponent is Mike Bennett. Bennet had a very strong showing in his past two appearances on PTL. His victory over Kratos was a hard fought victory. His loss against Aldis was devastating. DBS Jr. is not Kratos. Bennett will have his hands full tonight.
