Pioneers of the Independent Networks

I think it’s great that the WWE TV Network is now available for all fans to enjoy. BUT, it by no means tells the complete story of professional wrestling…, in fact, it’s more the story of mass media.

Well we all know that the mass media never gives you the entire truth – it gives you their view askew of history! You see, the truth behind pro wrestling is that the Indies are the true life blood and life line of the sport. There’s a million reasons why we need to preserve the work of the Indies, but let me give you a quick two-count: Ask yourself this… would Steve Austin’s ‘Stone Cold’ character been born had he not worked for ECW, and ECW would have never been born had it not been for Joel Goodhart’s TWA. Ask yourself this… would Duane Gill’s parody character ‘Gillberg’ been born, had he and Barry Hardy not built several Maryland Indie promotions, and would Gillberg had existed if it weren’t for the Monster Factory and the WWA. If you’re not familiar with those facts, then you need to see the whole picture and help us keep the archives of all the Indies alive. The Indies are our story, and no one will herald them unless we take pride in our roots and keep those archives in the collective memory of the wrestling communities.
