On this Day… Christian Cage would become NWA World Champion

On February 13th 2006, Christian Cage defeated NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett for the first of two championship reigns at TNA’s Against All Odds. Christian Cage quietly exited the WWE as a 3 Time Intercontinental Champion, multi-time Tag Team Champion, Hardcore Champion, European Champion, and Light Heavyweight Champion. Cage had wrestled in the WWE from 1998 all the way until having his last WWE match at a Smackdown TV Taping in Los Angeles teaming with JBL to take on Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio. Christian would join TNA and quickly find himself in the hunt for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. His second match with the company was a #1 Contendership at Turning Point 2005. Although he woulsn’t get his shot at Jeff Jarrett until February and would only have a handful of matches before winning the title. Outside of TNA, he’d have defenses for NWA Liberty States Wrestling (Jay Lethal), four matches in NEW (Billy Kidman, Samoa Joe, Abyss, AJ Styles) and for BSE against the Monster Abyss. Cage’s first run was successful in defending against Monty Brown and Abyss before ultimately losing the title back to Jarrett in a King of the Mountain Match.
It would be seven months before Cage would regain the title defeating Abyss and Sting. Cage would go on to successfully defend against Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, and Sting before ultimately being stripped of the title when the NWA and TNA agreement came to a close
