On Night 2 of the NWA Crockett Cup, Jax Dane had a title shot against Anthony Mayweather. Mayweather defeated Chris Adonis to become the NWA National Championship at POWERRR TRIP. Dane was able to expose a weakness in Mayweather’s defenses. In the course of their scheduled bout, Mayweather’s knee became compromised. Mayweather was able to battle the pain and managed to force Jax Dane to submit to an armbar submission. Mayweather scored his first victory as champion.
But his victory was short-lived. As Mayweather was helped from ringside by security, Jax attacked. An enraged Dane proceeded to beat the lights out of security and drag Mayweather back to the ring. He would tuck Mayweather’s legs into the ring apron and proceed to beat on his weakened knees.
Why did they grant Dane another shot at Mayweather?
It was at that point that Dane cashed in his Championship Series award. As a part of Team Pope and Velvet Sky, each member was awarded a Championship Cash In, that could be used at any time. Trevor Murdoch cashed his award in to challenge Nick Aldis at the NWA 73rd Anniversary Show. Currently; Velvet Sky, Colby Corino, and Da Pope still have these awards to use, anytime.
By the time the match was restarted, Mayweather was already defenseless. The attack proved to be too much for him. Dane easily took advantage of this and defeated the former champion with a monster lariat. You can see the final blow here. Jax previously defeated Lou Marconi in 2015 to win the National Championship. He would briefly unify his National Championship with Tim Storm’s North American Championship. Jax Dane was never defeated for the National Championship. A torn tricep kept him out of action for several months and would force him to relinquish the belts.
