Interview with David Marquez

David Marquez is completely transparent in this interview going into depth about how he got started into the business working with Gordon Solie and Harley Race before returning to Southern California to work with Rick Bassman with UPW, Rob Black and Kevin Klienrock of XPW, and Gary Yap with EPIC. David talks about how he became involved with New Japan Pro Wrestling, the beginnings of NJPW USA, becoming a full fledged member of the National Wrestling Alliance and how he tried to lead a New Japan buyout of the 72 year old brand. David speaks about what ended the NWA/TNA relationship.

David and I have been friends for nearly 20 years. Everytime we sit down for an interview, we end up talking for hours about his nearly 30 yeasr with the NWA. This podcast was very unique. We spent almost two hours speaking about Marquez's experience in the world of wrestling. David was born and raised in Southern California and even promoted his first wrestling event before a move to Missouri granted him an opportunity to become a part of a new wrestling company. He breaks down how he got invovled with Gordon Solie and Harley Race to form WLW. The transition from returning to SoCal and becoming a producer/director for many independent wrestling promotions; UPW, XPW, EPIC, etc. David also goes into detail how he got connected with the Inoki Family, the Inoki Dojo, bringing the NJPW USA brand, and becoming a member of the NWA. David goes into details how they went from running events in the Inoki Dojo to running events in huge arenas. David also speaks about his efforts to help NJPW attempt to purchase the NWA. We then get into Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and how it was impacted with the changes to NWA ownership and how it has benefited with the newest NWA Ownership.
