Fightful Select has learned that the current AEW TNT Champion Cody Rhodes is technically a free agent. Cody’s contract expired at the end of 2021, and he’s been working in All Elite Wrestling without a contract ever since.”

Many expect Cody to re-sign with AEW. During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Cody even referenced that his future is with AEW.

The event that kick-started All Elite Wrestling was All In. Although not the Main Event, Cody defeated Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. The match was definitely one of the highlights of the event. Cody’s time with the National Wrestling Alliance was brief. While in WWE Development, Cody competed at Ohio Valley Wrestling, while it was still affiliated with the NWA. Cody’s only victory as Worlds Heavyweight Champion was against Willie Mack in Ring of Honor. Cody Rhodes, lost the title when he faced Nick Aldis in a 2/3 Falls Match at the 70th Anniversary Show.

Cody last appeared on AEW Programing against Ethan Page at New Year’s Smash. Cody would miss his next title defense due to “Covid Protocols.” AEW did crown an interim champion. Sammy Guevara (the former champion) defeated Dustin Rhodes. Dustin is Cody’s older brother.
