Former NWA North American Champion, “Big Daddy Yum Yum” aka Byron Wilcott was a victim of an early morning shooting at his home.
According to news source KTBS.com “It happened shortly after 6:30 a.m., Saturday morning in the 4200 block of Calderwood Drive. According to a news release, Byron Wilcott, 42, called the Caddo Sheriff’s Office to report that he’d been shot at his home. Deputies say Wilcott told them he was inside at the front door heading out to his car when heard several gunshots. Wilcott received non-life threatening wounds in the abdomen, wrist, and thigh. He’s being treated at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport.”
Wilcott had held many NWA regional championships, including NWA Lone Star Heavyweight Championship, NWA Main Event Television Championship, and teaming with Teddy Hart won the NWA North American Tag Team Championships (titles they have not lost). Wilcott is a 2 time NWA North American Champion, having defeated Carson to win the championship on January 11th, 2013 at NWA Houston before losing the title to Kahagas on April 2nd at the Parade of Champions event for NWA Houston, for his first reign. Wilcott’s second reign started when he avenged his loss to Kahagas to regained the title. Wilcott would go on to lose to Tim Storm.
Byron Wilcott also represented the National Wrestling Alliance in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He unsuccessfully challenged Hiroyoshi Tenzan for the Ten Pounds of Gold on April 29th, 2015 in Mashiki Japan for the NJPW Wrestling Hinokuni. Ironically enough he also challenged Satoshi Kojima for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship on February 9th, 2014 in Hiroshima for an NJPW PPV.
