Chris Adonis to Make History | NWA News

At the NWA 73rd Anniversary Show, Chris Adonis successfully defended his NWA National Championship in his first title defense. Although Adonis is a two-time Champion, he’s never actually defended the title. But Adonis looks to make history this Friday night when the National Championship is defended across the Atlantic.
Preston City Wrestling
Preston City Wrestling has been one of the top spots for talent from around the world. Promoting events since 2011, PCW has become one of the top promotions in the UK. The relationship between the NWA and PCW has blossomed over the past few years. Nick Aldis defended his Ten Pounds of Gold in December of 2018. Even as recently as this past August ahead of the EMPOWERRR PPV, Kamille along with fiance Thom Latimer were originally booked to compete at PCW although the card ended up being canceled. Prior to NWA POWERRR Thom and Nick have had competed for PCW. Ironically, so has their partner in Strictly Business, Adonis.
Chris Adonis in PCW
Chris Adonis has competed in PCW going as far back as 2013. He has been a multiple PCW Heavyweight Champion. Adonis had defeated Joey Hayes to win the championship on August 1st, 2014. He would lose the title to WWE’s Apollo on November 29th, 2014. Masters would regain the title briefly in March but would lose the title to Dan Mastiff in July of 2015. But Adonis would continue to make appearances for the promotion. His last match for PCW was October 6th, 2018.
Doug Williams in PCW
Although these are familiar grounds for Doug Williams, he has spent about as much time in PCW as Adonis. Doug to has been appearing with PCW since nearly the beginning. Williams was the 4th man to hold the championship. The title that Adonis would later hold two times after. Oddly enough, both Adonis and Williams have spent quite a bit of time in Preston City, but Williams last appeared on August 18th, 2018. Ironically enough, the only time Adonis has shared a ring with Doug Williams was back in 2017 in Germany for GWF Grandslam Wrestling.
NWA National Championship
Adonis defeated Trevor Murdoch to win the NWA National Championship. He briefly abdicated the title to help Nick Aldis in the course of a battle royal to determine the new number one contender, for the NWA Worlds Title. Adonis would win the championship for a second time defeating JTG in the tournament finals on NWA POWERRR episode 34. Adonis agreed to defend his title against Williams on Instagram, to help commemorate the 10th anniversary of PCW.
The modern version of the NWA National Championship was re-activated at the NWA 70th Anniversary Show, when Willie Mack defeated Samuel Shaw in the finals of a tournament to determine the new champion. Prior to Billy Corgan’s purchase of the NWA, each country facilitated its own heavyweight championship. In the United Kingdom, the NWA previously recognized Fight Nation’s Heavyweight Championship as the NWA British Heavyweight Championship. And before that, NWA Hammerlock’s NWA UK Heavyweight Championship. The American title was not previously defended in the UK as the country already had its own titles representing them.
EDITORS NOTES: The match did not take place. When pressed on the issue Adonis said Covid-19 prevented him from making the match. We are unsure if Adonis tested positive for Covid if a loved one tested positive and had to quarantine, or something else. No word on when the match may be rescheduled.
