Billy Corgan to Take ‘World Is a Vampire’ to Australia – And the NWA With It!

World is a Vampire Australian festival poster.

Further to the announcement in recent months that The Smashing Pumpkins’ World Is a Vampire festival would take place in Mexico City, Mexico, from March 6th to March 9th this year, today has seen the reveal of an Australian leg of the tour, to take place from April 15th to April 30th this year.

Most importantly, Billy Corgan will be bringing the National Wrestling Alliance down under with him. Whereas in Mexico the NWA will be mixing it up with AAA, who alongside CMLL are one of Mexico’s biggest wrestling promotions, in Australia the Alliance is set to be joined by the Wrestling Alliance of Australia (WAOA).

While a cursory Google search seems to reveal nothing about WAOA outside of the World Is a Vampire announcement, it is heartening seeing Billy continue to make partnerships with other promotions, and especially internationally. If done right and utilised well, such partnerships will help to bolster the roster, present fresh matchups and improve the audience reach beyond what the company currently has.

On the music side of things, The Smashing Pumpkins are set to be joined by 80s/90s legends Jane’s Addiction, a good fit with Pumpkins’ arty alt-rock. While the wrestling is the thing I’m most interested in, such a massive musical pairing is sure to entice Australian festival goers to part with their cash.

Tickets for World Is a Vampire go on general sale on Friday, 3rd February at 9am local time. Pre-sale tickets for One World Entertainment members will be available from February 1st – again at 9am local time.
