Announcing Rock & Roll Express Farewell Tour | NWA News

Age 65 is the time most Americans settle into retirement. Not Ricky Morton. Although he is ready to say goodbye to the Rock & Roll Express. Morton announced via social media that the iconic tag team will kick off their farewell tour, on January 22nd, 2022. But not for the reasons you might think. After teaming with Robert Gibson of 38 years, Morton wants to focus his remaining active years elsewhere. He wants to team with his son Kerry and pursue opportunities to work behind the scenes.

8-Time NWA World Tag Team Champions

In Jim Crocket Promotions, the Rock N Roll Express would have much of their success. The pair would win their first tag titles defeating the Russians in 1985. They would win the titles for a second time defeating Nikita and Ivan Koloff. Outsmarting the Midnight Express, Morton and Gibson won their third tag titles. Their fourth and final reign in the JCP era came when they defeated Manny Fernandez and Rick Rude.

In 1995, rejoining the Crocket family in Dallas, Gibson and Morton won a tournament to become five-time Champions. This time defeating the Guerrero brothers to win the NWA World Tag Team Titles.

The Rock N Roll Express would finally work for Vince McMahon in 1998 as part of the NWA Invasion. At this point, the duo was “awarded” the titles, which they subsequently lost to the Headbangers. Nevertheless, the pair were six-time NWA World Tag Team Champions.

Just two years after the WWE fiasco, the two were once again booked in the National Wrestling Alliance. This time on a tour of Korea, through MACW. MACW has had a history of putting on events in The South Pacific. They’ve promoted shows in China, Korea, Malaysia, and more. This time, in Waegwan, South Korea. As The Main Event, Steve Dunn and Jackie Fulton (subbing for Reno Riggins) would lose their titles to Morton and Gibson.

The Rock N Roll Express became NWA World Tag Team Champions for an eight-time on October 1st, 2019. By defeating Thom Latimer and Royce Isaacs, they had won the titles in every decade since their formation.
Thus, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson held tag team titles in the 80s, 90s, 2000, and 2010… four decades.

Kerry Morton is currently part of the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Tournament. His father won the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Championship in 2014. Ricky Morton will return to the NWA on this Saturday’s episode of NWA USA. Morton and Gibson are set to challenge the AAA Tag Team Champions FTR on January 22nd, in South Carolina at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium
