And New NWA National Champion

For the first time in his career, Trevor Murdoch has become a NWA Champion by defeating Aron Stevens for the NWA National Heavyweight Championship in a feud that started at NWA POWERRR and came to conclusion at Prime Time Live

It has been a long road for Trevor Murdoch. With his opportunity to face the NWA National Champion “Shooter” Aron Stevens, Trevor Murdoch (much like the rest of the world) was put on pause. With the repercussions of the global pandemic as well as a re-structuring in the National Wrestling Alliance, Murdoch had to wait for his opportunity to face his rival nearly seven months. But the payoff has finally come, because Murdoch defeated Aron Stevens to become the sixth man to hold the championship since it was reactivated at the NWA 70th Anniversary Show on October 21st 2018.

The road for Murdoch goes all the way back to World Legion Wrestling (now operating as World League Wrestling). WLW was a partnership between David Marquez, Gordon Solie, and former NWA Worlds Champion Harley Race. They would often have NWA talent appear on those cards including Dan Severn defending the Worlds Championship. Murdoch as Stand Dupp was part of the early days of NWA: TNA. And although Murdoch would bounce around between Pro Wrestling Noah and WLW, he’d eventually find footing with WWE. Although after his time in the WWE he became a member of NWA Pro Wrestling Showcase, teaming with his WWE Partner Lance Cade. Murdoch would also travel tours across North America as part of the NWA Showcase.

By defeating Aron Stevens, Trevor Murdoch was able to do something that he hadn’t done in his entire illustrious career. Win an NWA Championship. Somewhere you have to imagine, Harley Race is smiling. Congrats to the new NWA National Heavyweight Champion – Trevor Murdoch.
