A Rivalry Continues for the National Championship, Matt Cross challenges January 5th

December 12th the National Wrestling Alliance announced the opponent for the National Champion at the Pop Up Event on July 5th 2019. “Chocolate Thunder” Willie Mack will defend his championship against MDogg.

While competing in Lucha Underground, Willie Mack and Matt Cross have often stood across from each other in the ring. And most recently stood next to each other. Teaming with Killshot; Matt Cross (Son of Havoc) have held the Underground Trios Titles with Willie Mack. Prior to their recent run they also feuded over the trios titles.

Matt Cross has spent the better part of the past 19 years apply his craft globally. If you name a major Independent promotion in the past twenty years, Matt Cross has wored for them. CZW, XPW, IWA, MLW, PWG, ROH, AIW, APW, and countless international matches across 18 countries. Cross got a lot of praise for his match at All In, where he defeated Maxwell Jacob Friedman. Matt Cross has also been a regular of Lucha Underground since its inception as the Son of Havoc. While working for Lucha Underground Cross has challenged for the Underground Championship as well as teaming for the Trios Championship. Cross has previously worked with the NWA territories in New York and even challenged Nick Aldis unsuccessfully for the Worlds Heavyweight Championship on April 22nd. Matt Cross was a cast member of the 5th Season of WWE’s Tough Enough.

There are very few wrestlers who’ve had a better year than Willie Mack. 2018 Highlights include wrestling in Japan for Dragon Gate including defending the Hollywood Heritage Championship in Tokyo, Touring Australia with House of Hardcore while defending the Twitch TV Championship, being featured on Lucha Underground and Aro Lucha television programming and lastly winning the National Championship at NWA 70th Anniversary show in Nashville. Mack is coming off a back to back nights where he successfully defended the NWA National Championship. On the first night, he defeated Shane Strickland at the Arena in Philly at House of Hardcore 52: Indie Darlings to retain his HOH Twitch TV Title as well as the National title. The next night Willie returned to the OceanView Pavilion to defend against the man he defeated to win the title Samuel Shaw.

NWA Pop Up takes place January 5th at the William Rudolph Center in Clarksville Tennessee. Already scheduled; a Worlds Heavyweight Championship match featuring Nick Aldis defending against James Storm, a qualifying match for the 2019 Crockett Cup, a Woman’s Championship match and more.
