The National Treasure Nick Aldis made history Saturday night in Atlanta, being the first man to defend the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at Center Stage since 1993. Aldis defeated PJ Black to retain the title at Ring of Honor’s TV Taping.

Center Stage opened in October 26th 1966. From 1989 thru 1996 it was the primary home for WCW’s TV Taping. Over 150 wrestling shows have been hosted at Center Stage including Mixed Martial Art fights. In 2000 the venue hosted its first and only ECW event. WWE still holds NXT events in the venue. Ring of Honor debuted at Center Stage back on April 1st and 2nd 2011. January 12th was the seventh show there.

The Nature Boy Ric Flair was previously the last NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion to defend his title at Center Stage on August 2nd 1993. This was just prior to the final split between World Championship Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance. Flair would defeat Sting by a count out.

Nick Aldis reclaimed the Worlds Heavyweight Championship on October 21st at the NWA 70th Anniversary Show by defeating Cody. The Worlds Champion now has 11 victories since reclaiming the Ten Pounds of Gold. The next scheduled NWA Worlds Title match is scheduled to take place at World League Wrestling Night of Champions IV against Leland Race on March 9th.
