Baron’s review: CWA Championship Wrestling 1/30/88

Update: Baron’s review will only cover CWA, and NWA content. I’ve also updated my author’s profile, it now includes a link to my WordPress.

Jimmy Jack Funk interview followed by Jimmy Jack Funk vs. Jerry The King Lawler in a CWA title match.

Jimmy calls Jerry the “King of the Sissies” during his interview. His promos don’t seem to change very much. Funk, and Lawler are evenly matched. Funk tried to convince the referee, that Jerry ripped his hair out. Which is kind of clever. When things don’t go his way, he gets Teijo Khan to sit ringside. To even things up, Jerry gets Jeff Jarrett to come out. The match is stopped because, they started fighting outside the ring. Jerry retains.

Terry Taylor & Gorgeous Gary Young vs. Bill Superstar Dundee & Rikki Nelson

There was a good back, and forth between the two teams. But Terry, and Gary gained control because of Rikki’s inexperience. Rikki managed to tag in Dundee, but the Midnight Rockers interfered before he could get anything going. Jerry “The King” Lawler comes out to save the day, and the heels disperse.

Maxx Payne vs. Alan Reynolds

Maxx makes a statement by completely dominating his opponent. He’s come to CWA on a revenge quest given to him by Mr.Sharpe.

The Midnight Rockers (Marty Jannetty/Shawn Michaels) vs. The Bruise Brothers (Don/Ron)

The Rockers had trouble at first, but they gained control later on. The Rockers leave with a win. This was a solid main event. I hope, they revisit this in future episodes.
