After the initial television taping for Ring Warriors on WGN America I had the opportunity to ask Larry Brannon about how his program would be different from all the other wrestling options out there. “A big weapon in are arsenal right now, we have a willingness to play ball with other promotions. We are not going to act like other promotions don’t exist. It doesn’t mean I go sticking every ones belt and every one’s champion on my show and talk them up. No, we will be selective about it.” This weekend, as a special attraction the Finals of the NWA National Championship match will air on Ring Warriors, this Saturday at 8am.
The story of Willie Mack is a fascinating one. In 2018, Mack has made
appearances with now Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor, Lucha Underground, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, House of Hardcore, Aro Lucha Libre, The Crash (in Mexico) and Dragon Gate (in Japan.) and various other wrestling promotions. Mack was initially contacted to be a part of the Ring Warriors TV Taping in Las Vegas, but his commitments with Dragon Gate prevented him from making the television broadcast. He is a former Hollywood Heritage Champion and currently the House of Hardcore Champion. On October 21st Willie Mack joined the likes of Jay Bradley, Mike Parrow, and Ricky Starks in a Four-Way Elimination Match for the newly created NWA National Championship Belt. Willie Mack would outlast the three other men, including eliminating Jay Bradley and Ricky Stark.
Samuel Shaw is currently the reigning and defending Tried N True Heavyweight Champion. Shaw got his start in professional wrestling out of the Team 3D Academy in Florida. He has held titles in Florida based promotions Vintage and Full Throttle Pro Wrestling. Shaw was 1/2 of the Southern Tag Team Champions in Ohio Valley Wrestling, took part of the Impact Gut Check Challenge and spent time with Impact Wrestling. Shaw’s path to the finals included eliminating Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, and eliminating Scorpio Sky, two of the odds on favorites to win the title.
The National Championship was declared inactive when Billy Corgan and David Lagana took over the National Wrestling Alliance in October 2017. The title was eventually stripped and declared vacant. October 1st, the NWA announced the list of competitors that would be involved in the matches to crown a new champion; Cabana, Sky, Mike Parrow, Bradley, Shaw, Starks, Mack, and Sammy Guevara.
This will not be the first time a title not native to Ring Warriors will appear on its program. Austin Aries has defended the Impact Heavyweight Championship twice previously. The current Ring Warriors Champion is Jeff Cobb who defeated Eli Drake in tournament finals. Ring Warriors started broadcasting on WGN America on September 15th 2018 and has been a stable for the channel Saturday Mornings at 8am. The shows take place in Las Vegas at the Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall.
